Scafell central buttress

There was a thread on UKC some time ago about Bonington & Mike Thompson doing a route to the left of the old "central buttress" named route, but which doesn't seem to be recorded anywhere. Said to have been harder than the original "central buttress"
Can anyone recall the thread or does anyone know where their route went?
