A few shots and photoblog of a recent trip to The salbitschen region and the awesome South ridge of the Grat . I think a few people on UKC have mentioned they're heading out there later this year so maybe this will whet your appetite

Excellent light, superb photos. The Sudgrat is one of the best Alpine rock routes I've ever done and your pics have really caught the whole atmosphere.

Thanks for sharing.

An awesome set, thanks for sharing. Get them on ukc now so we can give you photo of the week!

In reply to Dan Arkle: Ha, thanks Dan , the truth is i was disappointed by the lens flare i got on the summit pinnacle shot . I deliberately didnt use the 24-105 as it gives really bad lens flare but i got a big blob at the base of the pinnacle and little blobs around the sun . Maybe some chalk dust ? I'll put them up on UKC later today , thanks for the comments.

In reply to Nadir khan: Great shots as always! One thing that really stands out on your images is the colours on the subject that really 'pop'. Apart from bright clothing, any tips? Camera settings, post processing?

Great work anyway.

Cheers

Ben.

In reply to beneboy: Thanks , clothing is certainly part of the equation to make the climber stand out from the surroundings and sometimes if I'm doing a shoot with mates they'll have a few different colours of tops to change between locations depending on the surroundings . Using the best lens you can afford to kkep the image as sharp as possible , i use the centre focus point only most of the time as its the most sensitive . Body position , making sure the limbs dont lead out of the frame and some dynamic movemnt also helps rather than just standing but thats also not always possible. Climbers are often looking down at their feet and trying to get a shot with the head up i think makes a big difference . As far as PP goes , 99% LR4 and 1% CS6 to remove little spots etc and sharpen using high pass set around 3.5%and overlay. Hope that helps ?
In reply to Nadir khan: I've nothing to add to this thread other than tremendous work Nadir, top notch action shots!

In reply to Nicholas Livesey: Thanks Nicholas, have you sorted out your portfolio for LPOTY? only a couple of weeks to go , I bet you'll be wild camping somewhere for a sunrise shot : )
In reply to Nadir khan: Hi Nadir, I've entered 15 and I can still enter 10...I've got the whole of next week in Wales so I'm hoping to come back with some good stuff and yes, there'll be some early starts and late finishes!

Good luck

In reply to Nicholas Livesey: will look forward to seeing what you get up to . I've uploaded 24 so have one space left for something special that may come up . the winner of LPOTY is usually something a bit bland considering some of the stunning images they get and the judges also seem to favour HDR which I'm not a big fan of . good luck
