Hi everyone,

I am looking to join a local fell running club that will help push my fitness and limits. I live in New Mills, High Peak I have a car so can travel to anywhere thats within a reasonable distance.

Thank you in advance!

http://www.penninefellrunners.co.uk/ would be an obvious choice, a well regarded club & they run regularly from Hayfield I think.

In reply to becdent: You could ask on the FRA forum if you've not already:

They're quite a friendly bunch on there generally.

In reply to becdent: Aye I'd go with pennine but you also have dark peak with runners that side.. just head down to some nights. you don't have to join. Pennine seem like a great club, always great camaraderie, nice bunch, experienced runners.

Looks like there's a run tomorrow night?

In reply to IainRUK: Just to add as a warning, Thursday may be an emotional night. one of their runners died in a race at the weekend, young guy, really well liked and respected not just in his club but fell running in general.. But I'm sure they'd love to see more out.

In reply to becdent: Hi Rebecca
I'm in Pennine and I can assure you that you will be very welcome this and any other Thursday night at the Royal in Hayfield ready to run at 7pm. A wide range of speeds from the very steady to the odd IainR beater

This Thursday will be emotional and there will be some more tears shed. Daz Holloway, who died of a sudden heart attack while racing last weekend was a very special guy. The last thing he would have wanted was to put you off getting out.

I'm working away just now so can't be there but if you want me to put you in touch with someone so that they are expecting you, drop me a line.

Lots of Pennine members are also climbers, MTB, cavers, sailors, etc. too so you'll fit right in Hope to see you when I'm not stuck out here in the desert.

In reply to IainRUK: Iain

Thanks for your recommendation and your thoughtful warning. We're now looking like having 6 teams out at the weekend for the relays!

Still can't believe Daz won't be shouting encouragement at me anymore. Gutted.

In reply to RichT: Aye very sad. We had a fair few battles over the years. Fierce competitor, I used to hate being near him at the end of a race as you knew he was willing to hurt, but always came over for a hand shake and a chat. Still shocked by it really. Very good fell runner but had a genuine love of just being on the fells with other fell runners.

I've always found Pennine a welcoming bunch, I've swapped emails and tips for our respective local races with Geoff and know Andy fairly well from various events. This year Patrick turned out early to show me the end of the Trog before race.

Then again I run with dark peak sporadically, maybe even 2nd claim for them still, and they have a nice social scene but their main base is sheffield side really.

I believe Daz had the same condition as John Taylor of Bingley, another fellrunner, who passed away suddenly in 2002. Very sad, thoughts with his family and friends.
