I'm looking for suggestions for an economy priced boot option for winter. I've promised to take my 14 yr old ( almost 15 yr old )out this winter to do a few routes. He got out last year a few times and wore an old pair of my boots. But he's outgrown my cast offs and I need to buy him something to wear. I don't want to invest heavily in boots that he might only wear for a year because he's still growing. But for safety and comfort reasons he needs something that does the job and doesn't put him off winter climbing for life. We'll obviously be sticking to relatively straightforward routes so nothing too technical. Any ideas.

In reply to alastairmac: have you looked at army surplus Lowa plastics? A quick google should find what you're after
In reply to alastairmac: These would be about the right size: http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?t=523922

In reply to highaltitudebarista: I have a pair of Salomon Super Mountain Experts for sale in size UK 11. They'll generally suit someone who takes a size 10/10.5 in normal shoes. They look practically unused, but have had only three days out in snow - the soles look very good.
Have a look at my post - http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?t=524942&v=1#x7069602
I will come down to £70.00, with postage extra, or you can pick them up if you're in Fort William sometime soon.
All the best, Jamie

They have only been used for about 10 days and are in excellent condition.

£70 posted if you are interested.
