You could support your local independent, it is what I do.

In reply to The Lemming: I've never seen anything worthy of porn status in my jessops, a 60D would be seen as exotic. I do however imagine the brand is still worth a bit.

Hopefully it means there will be a chain of camera shops around but of slightly higher standard than before.

And if there isn't one? My nearest shop is 20 miles and only does second hand.

Or what if their prices are that much more than amazon that it's clear that their wholesaler is the one profiting not them? Would you really pay 900 for a camera that is 600 on amazon?
In reply to Philip: A second hand camera shop? I would love to have a secondhand camera shop nearby!

Don't need all this new porn, just a basic digital body, some decent lenses and a handheld meter.

LCE shops are just about ideal, bit of new, lot of old.

If anyone finds themselves in Devon, head to Mifsuds in Brxham.

In reply to The New NickB: What if your local independant is a Nikon dealer?

And how close are you to your local independant?

Mine is one hour away, with a lot of travelling and faffing, door to door. Not what you would call local.

In reply to The Lemming: In reply to The Lemming: good question one that someone who fondle there gear before they buy should have thought of before ordering off the Internet. Not having a go at you but the consumer in general. I worked in a music equipment shop for a couple of years and spent two hours demonstrating a digital piano to a Dr I mention that as I have a certain perception of moral standards from the professional classes, anyways I rang him up to follow up and he told me he'd found it cheaper online and ordered it from them. Sadly the local music shop went into receivership about a year after I left. As has the local camera shop.

In reply to andrew breckill: yeah that's not right man - using a shop for a whole 2 hours like that and then refusing to pay that little bit extra. I mena, a brief look is ok I think, 10 minutes or so.

Two minutes from work. There must be 20 independants within an hour of Blackpool.
