I'm thinking of heading to Rjukan at the end of March / earrly April. Does anyone know if there will be any stable ice to climb at that time?

In reply to Stuart Johnston:

Judging by the conditions mid-Feb I'd imagine so. The ice was really thick and well-formed whilst I was there.

Ask André at Climb Inn. He'll give you an idea of the current conditions, I'm sure.

In reply to Stuart Johnston:
Go further north... we were out in Lyngen skiing last April and there was stacks of ice everywhere, temperature about -5ºC beside the seaside!
In reply to Andes:
Agreed (I was there last April too) but I'm looking to do a quick and cheap trip and staying and getting to Lyngen isn't either of those!

In reply to Stuart Johnston: Oppdal is reputed for its late season conditions!

In reply to Stuart Johnston: Just back from Rjukan

It snowed Friday-Sunday midday which added to the wintery feel, looks like it is due to go cold again this week with Easterlys setting in. Will be very surprised if there is not lots to go at end of the month. Latest trip ive had was 2nd week in April and any route facing North was still fat and in good condition.
