Is there anything dodgy about buying a camera from Hong Kong?

Will it still work and be of the same quality/standard.

The site I am looking at is: http://cameraparadise.com/en/index/index.php

Cheers,

In reply to Tom Ripley Mountain Guide: Presumably you'll have to pay VAT and maybe other taxes on it if you're having it sent to the EU.

They would also be deemed grey imports by the manufactures and unlikely to be considered by them to be under warranty within the EU.
In reply to Tom Ripley Mountain Guide: I've worked it out they charge £30 delivery and a 30 clearance fee, which makes them less of a good deal.

I understand the big problem with these camera deals is the warranty.

In reply to Tom Ripley Mountain Guide: I bought an old Nikon F2 film camera from Japan via the auction site and have be retro-clobbered £65 VAT and import duty from my friends at HMRC via DHL. Not such a good deal.

In reply to Tom Ripley Mountain Guide: I bought a Canon S95 from DigitalRev last year. No issues with VAT, which they say they'll pay if you get clobbered. I did notice it said on the invoice that it's a £55 camera. Bit of a scam eh? I did my research and they have a 'repair centre' in the UK and of all the Hong Kong dealers I looked at, they did seem the most reliable, if that's the right word, when it comes to fulfilling their part of the deal.
