Am considering getting a Manfrotto 190XB tripod. Just wondering what the quality of the low angle adapter is like, as I can foresee wanting to remove the centre column quite a bit to save weight for camping trips.

Is it usable with the centre column removed and only the low angle adapter in place? Do you have to take the round top plate off the centre column and screw it onto the triangular low angle adapter to use?
