On Monday, I hurt a tendon in my lower leg a bit. On Wednesday, I ran over two volcanoes in Japan (1400m up, 900 down) and the descent was quite painful. Now I have a lump on my tendon, I think it's the peroneus longus, and it hurts like f. As I'm off to Font next week, what is the best thing to do to get it to heal: complete rest or a lot of easy walking?

In reply to Removed Usersebastian74: Unfortunately, I'm still in Japan until Sunday. Trying to find an English speaking GP in Fukuoka on Saturday seems like bit of a hopeless proposition. What medication were you thinking of?

In reply to KlaasW: Ibuprofen gel, and plenty of it. And sticking the foot in icy cold water, or alternate icy and hot, all to reduce the swelling

You may struggle to fix this in a week

I'm no expert, but for various reasons my better half has researched this to death.

If it is the peroneus longus you will be able to get away with it for a short time. Take ibuprofen, ice the area with peas/ice/chilled stuff in a towel, and consider some lengthways taping or a compression sock to keep down the swelling. Bouldering is likely to make it feel sore.

In the longer term, you really should go an get this properly looked at. Damage and ruptures to the PL are often poorly diagnosed. In some cases, there can be a complete rupture with little consequence. In other cases even minor damage can have fairly significant consequences. Push to see someone who really knows what they're talking about, ideally a lower limb specialist (not a surgeon) with sports med experience.

Good job it's a trip to font and not a hiking trip!

Good luck getting it sorted.
