Looking into buying my first DSLR.

I want something solid and compact that I wouldn't mind sticking in my bag on days out climbing.

I had a play with the Canon 100D recently and loved the feel / size.

The reviews also look good and I think I'd prefer the advantages of having a more compact camera than the extra features of the 700D since I'm mainly going to be using it on the go.

Does anyone have experience of this camera? Also has anyone spotted any good deals on it?

What else in terms of accessories would I need to get started?

Also, is it madness to carry an expensive DSLR in your bag while Scottish winter climbing?

Cheers.

Get one with the 'kit lens' and maybe a spare battery and you're away.

I wouldn't use one on a Scottish winter route, but I'm sure some do. I'd prefer a waterproof compact.

Nope, not at all.

I took a D3000 up there a few seasons ago when we did various routes. Just get a drybag to put it in and strap it safely to the outside of the bag or you may find condensation being a bit of an issue.
