Yesterday eveing, French cultural TV channel ARTE showed the German film Nanga Parbat :http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1361349/?ref_=sr_1

The film was in German, with French sub-titles. Usually ARTE give a large choice of languages, so I presume no English or French versions are available.

The film is the story of the Messner brothers, Reinhold and Gunther, from their earliest attempts at climbing in the Italian alps, to that fateful expedition to the Himalayas, where Gunther lost his life.

The film suffers from its' small budget but is nevertheless a decent effort. There is some excellent photography in Pakistan, but many of the climbing sequences show the budget constraints. The actors are believable and appear to believe in their roles themselves.

I'm not sure if the film has been released in the UK, perhaps it has been shown at some specialist festivals ? Worth seeing if you get the opportunity.

Anyone else seen it ?
