I want to buy one as a gift for my wife, she is a dedicated photographer and has lots of the high end stuff but is always using my compact as she hates her one.
I don't really know where to start as I don't really do photography.
What's good at the moment?
£200 is a guideline as I will be ordering from USA where that would equate to a $200 camera and these things usually are the same number of dollars as pounds over here.

In reply to dsh: I got myself a fuji xf1 recently a little quirky but the picture quality is good and would suit someone who is into their photography.
Not sur what its price would be in the States but may be out of your budget
I'm quite pleased with my Panasonic LX5, how about one of them? I've had mine for a while so it's not that new, but it was £230 then so must be in budget by now. It has quite a high-end feel to it.
