Just spotted these on sports pursuit, what do people think of them?

A shop that requires your email address even to see what they have to sell? Surely they must be kidding?

In reply to kjw1991: I actually bought the Vango viper 500 sleeping bag from there but it was more than the £90 they are asking for it now...It was still a bargain and may get a new harness as I like the singing rock stuff having had a few already

They must have employed a sales prevention technician.

In some ways it is sort of honest, they are a virtual clearing house for excess stock - I don't believe they hold much of the stuff they sell because sometimes you have to wait weeks to get it so I think it comes from the manufacturers warehouses - and their business model is sending regular emails out showing what they are currently selling. Hence they need your email - that's the deal with the devil I guess. You want to see how much they discount stuff, they want at least a few weeks of emailing you ads before you remember to unsubscribe!

Got some merino stuff for less than half the RRP recently from them, so I guess I was happy with the deal!

Ah right. It looks identical to Fab.com in fact

Yes; despite being an inveterate bargain hunter, and quite happy to give out my email address when I buy things, for some reason, I object to having to give my details just to look in a shop window. So I've never looked at their website. My loss, perhaps.

They don't hold any stock at all. They pre-sell and then take in exactly the number of pre-sold units from the supplier.

They will be the first to tell you that they're not a shop. They're a members only flash sale outfit.
If they were an open shop avaialable for google to browse then most of the brands tehy offer would probably not have agreed to deal with them.

This is interesting - although I wonder why not? I do remember hearing some rumbling of anger from shops - understandably perhaps - over respected specialist brands dumping excess stock on TKMaxx some years ago. Is making it 'members only' an improvement? It's not like you have to do anything to become a sports pursuit member.

Legally perhaps, on a technicality, but if it looks like a shop and quacks like a shop...

In reply to: Sport pursuit idea is nothing new, see Achica amongst others as an example and been going longer,

As Iain said, clearance shop, who dont buy in the stock until they have sold it for a couple of weeks
