"The love of Mountains is best"

Bob Bates biography "The love of mountains is best" is named after an incription in Greek carved on the summit of a minor alpine summit. I haven't read the book, the information is from the David Roberts book, "Escape from Lucania". Does anybody know which mountain it refers to, and the history of the carving.
