My mate has lived in his house over 10 years.

He's *never* received an electricity bill.

When he first moved in he simultaneously switched provider.... and then, nothing.

He has rung both companies innumerable times and even had people out form both to read the meter on several occasions. Each time they swear that the anomaly will be fixed... and then he hears nothing more.

He's now saying that he's giving up (and going to change all his heating to electric). I say that they'll catch up sooner or later and it will make his house hard to sell. He says it will make the house easier to sell (he has the whole paper trail) and he's tried hard enough. I say it's not the "right" thing to do. He says that nobody ppears to have any record of the meter number (he rang some central record of meter serial numbers).

Should I get 2km of armoured cable and join in?

Or shop him?

In reply to JJL: if he can prove hes tried to establish a method of payment then i cant see he'll hsbe to pay for all of it.

In reply to JJL: According to this piece http://www.theguardian.com/money/2013/sep/07/no-electricity-bill-20-years about a woman who hasn't received a bill in 20 years, they can only bill retrospectively for one year if it's the electricity company's fault that the customer hasn't been billed:

Ofgem says companies can't back-bill people for energy used more than 12 months ago "if the supplier was at fault for not having sent a bill to the customer".

Ofgem also have a handy leaflet about back-billing: https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/ofgem-publications/64010/back-billing-leaflet-2012...

For what and who to? Sounds like he's already done his best to shop himself.
