Looking to have a go at a 50km next year.

Any recommendations for a flatish road or trail course?

Two very well made points - my apologies for trying to multi task!

Still a great race though.

Thanks for the replies so far, if nothing else worth a giggle.

Ideally end of April or in May.

Just found the Kielder 100/50 km. Looks interesting.

Sounds like a good race, unfortunately it's too early in my training plan.

D33. That's 33 miles. Out of Aberdeen which may not be convenient. Flat; disused railway line mostly.

Booked the Kielder 50km today. Let the training begin.

Thinking of running in Brooks Cascadia 8. Use brooks shoes for all my road running and more than happy with them.

Anyone tried them out?

Kielder sounds good, I was going to suggest my club's Sandstone Trail in June, number 10 in the list of 'tight-fisted ultras' at 55p per mile.

I'll probably be on one of the (many) food stops next year, rather than running it. Seriously though, it's a good friendly event many people say is as the ideal first ultra. It's also linear which is quite good fun - coach to the start and traverse an entire OS map S to N. http://www.helsbyrunningclub.org.uk/sandstone-intro.htm

Thanks for that, one to consider for the future.

The kielder 50km is £30, thought that was pretty good value. Less than a pound per mile.
