BTEC Diploma Countryside Management: Project what did you do?

As well as looking elsewhere for info, I thought I'd ask on here on the off chance that anybody has done the same, or something similar.

I have to do a project for my BTEC Level 3 Diploma In Countryside Management. It's described as a course for people without any previous specialist knowledge, which is great, with my not having much previous specialist knowledge.

A point of confusion though, is that my tutor has told me I can do anything I want to do for my project, without actually giving any ideas as to what might be acceptable or fulfill the criteria for what would be needed for ' a good kind of project'.

After my grumbling about fly tipping, he said I could do a project about different ways of stopping fly tipping, but I'm wondering if something more plant or tree based might be better.

What have other people done for their projects, and what turned out to be good or bad ideas?

Any info, hints, stories and anecdotes appreciated.

Ta.

Hello Timmd
What do you hope to use your BTEC for? Can you pick a project that is relevant to your aim/ideal employer? Its quite hard to advise given the info youve provided and the breadth of the subject (is it an essay, research, how long etc).

My degree dissertation (ecology/wildlife management degree, 14 years ago!) looked at the habitat preferences of hazel in Glen Affric, in order to better direct planting in future. And so I could spend a couple of weeks wandering around in a beautiful spot, whilst gaining experience in something forestry/woodland related.

If you see yourself working for a wildlife trust or the RSPB (or Buglife, Plantlife, Butterfly conservation, etc etc) get in touch with the local group and see if they have an issue you can investigate. Could be anything from managing visitors to what kind of plants to plant. If policy is your thing, then a study of the Forestry Commission land sale or badger culling or EU seed laws might be gooduns. Or if you are of a more hands on practical nature, then trying out or investigating habitat management methods for what ever your desired outcome is might be more of interest (conservation, food production, estate management/shooting).
Hope somthing in that lot is useful!

Yes it is, thanks.

Figuring out what I'd like it to be for seems like an idea, I've just started it, so I'm still finding my way somewhat.

Asking the questions you have almost seems like something a tutor should ask. It's something I'd ask, in my tutor's place.

Food for thought, thanks very much!
