Chap doing his first, in a long time, winter trip this weekend - he has climbed previously in Scotland and the Alps (and further afield) but has never done either of these and is keen to get out on Sunday.

Whats the recommendations / pros and cons for doing either this weekend then?

(his partner has doen them both, just looking for thoughts of others)

The A.E. is a brilliant winter day out. Graded II but in reality that's only a couple of short sections. One of the finest mountain days out going. Depending on experience and confidence it's easily soloable but carrying a light rack (slings and a few nuts) and 1 rope will give you the option to protect the tricky bits (1 at the start and 1 ~half way along heading westbound as is conventional, if only as it ends at the pub). I would hazard a guess conditions will be OK but perhaps someone has actually been recently?

Agree it's a brilliant day but would urge a little caution depending on how many grades the OP and partner have in hand. Under certain conditions the AE is top end II rather than easy II and needs protecting. Also the direct route to the pub down the Clachaig gully path tends to be worth avoiding. Apologies if everyone knows this but enough people get caught out for it to be worth repeating. But certainly a must do!

Yup, both will be solo-ing the day, just was looking for recommendations as to the best day out - AE or CR?

Hopefully full visbility so will get great views, thinking that AE may offer greater vista to look at but the view across Rannoch Moor is poretty impressive from CR.

Any other thoughts?
