Instead of watching the rain from my window in Wales,i got to thinking of grit.
April 20 years ago, went into the Peak midweek, no plans , for a solo.
Things just happened and this was the result.

Stanage, Heather wall , Eliminator.
Burbage, Wednesday climb , Knights move.
Higgar tor, File , Surform.
Millstone , Embankment 2 , Bond st.
Lawrencefield, Great Harry , gingerbread.
Yarncliffe, Latecomer , Ants Arete.
Froggatt, Valkyrie , Chequers crack.
Curbar, Peapod , Hercules.
Gardoms, Nowanda
Chatsworth, Slip arete , Puppet crack.
Cratcliffe, Giants staircase , Elliott's Unconquerable.
Black Rocks, Birch Tree wall , Thin Man Superdirect.
Roaches, Valkyrie , Roscoe's wall.
Hen Cloud, The Arete , Rainbow crack.
Ramshaw, Little Nasty , Shark's Fin.

Seem to spend most of the time driving, walking and changing my shoes.
Sitting by the giant frog as the light dimmed, hungry and thirsty but happy. Less than 30 routes but what a contrast. Roll on Spring

Wow Bill, what a result! Both Valkyries, tons of other stuff and even the odd nemesis (for me), Peapod.

And the Little Nasty - is it still there? Got stuck into it one blazing hot day in the mid-1970s, just a pair of skimpy denim shorts on, no rope of course. Holy cremola! Was it ever well-named? De-hangovered en route. Much amusement for the assembled mob. And a lovely scrape across my tan from wrist to ankle.

You've got me thinking. Time for a rematch, methinks!

But as one of 'less than 30 routes'? No chance.

My great-grandfather's second cousin three times removed before he took up permanent residence at the crag.

You know Bill, you never did the first ascent of Lurcher Direct, Joe Goodison had done it years before.

Hi Al, What ever you say, don't know Joe Goodison was he a friend. bill

In reply to Al Evans:

Yeah, well, could Joe Goodison have done this? (Cos I could throw endless laps on Lurcher Direct but wouldn't touch this FA of Bill's with the proverbial barge pole.)

'The leaning prow is juggy, but the jugs are well-spaced and the landing is shocking.'

Sounds like a brilliant day out.
In the same era me and Parky did 50 'Extremes" in a day. It took us 12.5 hours. That night there was a CC dinner in Bamford, after 're-hydrating' I stalked the bar asking everyone I met "what did you get done today" so they would return the question and I could reel off the list!

Al,

What was the point of that? Unless there's some hidden in-joke at play, you've just taken a reflective, honest, post and blown an ungenerous, irrelevant rasperry?

You're better than that.

Hi Chris, I remember your 50 day, what a team and what a clever bit of rope work. Very impressive. Bill.
