This thought crossed my mind as I bought beer tonight. These chillers can't be very energy efficient. There must be millions of them, hos much energy would be saved if they had doors?

Is chiller downfall in yet?

All the cold air they emit reduces global warming, it's a proved fact.

That's so funny I nearly laughed.
Do you think putting doors on millions of open chillers would reduce energy consumption?

In reply to aln:

Clearly so, as a number of Tesco Express stores locally have reverted to having doors on them, and Tesco aren't well known for doing things that don't save money.

Retro fitting them? Depends on the age of the chiller and the energy cost of producing and fitting the door.

On a new chiller designed for a door with a life span of say 10 years I would have thought the extra energy will have a very short Payback.

Nope, it would be absolutely exhausting.

Oh you're so funny,

In reply to aln:

Do you mean vertical chillers or horizontal ones?

Cold air is heavier than warm air so sinks.

No doubt it's a pay off between aisles that have the doors constantly being opened and closed. So in the milk section (everyone buys milk on every visit) no doors, on the chilled quiche section (no one buys quiche) doors.

In reply to DancingOnRock:

Why can'°t they all have doors?
