As per the camcorder post! Looking for something better than a "point and shoot", but less bulky than a DSLR...I have a now ageing Olympus which is great but I can rarely be @rsed to get it out of the cupboard, much less take it anywhere.

you need to ask in the photography forum....
In reply to Nic:

My dad is a keen photographer and I know nothing and wanted a camera that will enable me to take decent photos even in winter. I was inspired by the UKC article a few weeeks ago.
So.. I was advised to get the Panasonic TZ40. I think it great. You can manually alter the F stops and all other stuff I dont understand (yet).

I believe the Canon 100D is the smallest APS-c dSLR.

However, the mirrorless system cameras are smaller and lighter with good picture quality, the sony NEX line and Micro four thirds systems are all good. Mirrorless is the way forward.

A 'bridge' compact would probably do the job fine. The Sony RX100 ii (or RX10 if you want more zoom), have great sensors and are well regarded.

I am such a non-photographer I hadn't realised there was a dedicated forum!
