A few years ago there was a destination article about a crag in northern France not a million miles away from Calais where there were loads of bolted cracks, I think it was granite. Can anyone remember the name of the place?
Thanks

No, I don't think so. There was a proper UKC destination article on the place but I can't find it on here anymore.

Depends how far from Calais you want to go. There are bolted granite cracks in the Massif Central. Eg., Le Capucin, although UKC says it's Limestone, but I seem to remember Basalt.

Maybe the crag is not where I thought it was. Still strange that I can't find the article at all though.

I think you'd need to get a fair way from calais to find granite...

Perhaps there is some climbing in Normandy on granite?

I just saw bolted cracks and granite, I know it's not France and no where near where you thought - just figured it was worth a punt in case you're like me and forget things easily...

Had a look on ukc logbook and came up with these, didn't seem to be much else on granite in northern France of the scale your looking for (that I could easily find):

Ah ha! That might have been where I was thinking of...and no its not where I thought it was at all!

Was essentially looking for somewhere with sport climbing that's on the way to Vanasque and vuagely remembered the article but as I said, its not where I thought it was.
Thanks

Martinswand (Vosges)? its granite, has bolts next to cracks and its in the northern half of France even if not normally thought of as 'North'

It is in Northern France and granite but a long way from Calais - 6/8 hrs but closer to somewhere like St. Malo. Looking at the UKC database, there are some granite crags way out West, around the Peninsula which sticks out at the North end of the Bay of Biscay.

There is a place called Mortain in Normandy which is quartzite. There is a great crack line there which is in a Bill Birkett article
