It was 5 degrees at 1am today - there had been excessive mild rain all evening, a substantial thaw (a good thing of course for reducing avalanche risk) during the course of the day (at this location about 1000 feet up). Currently, as the low has passed the temperature has dropped to 1 degree and it is snowing hard again.

The old man is shrouded in mist today, the snow line looks to have retreated a good few hundred meters, not good news!

I went for a (very windy) run over The Old Man today, via Levers Water and Swirl How. Great running conditions but no climbing I'm afraid. There was lots of snow and neve / ice about on the summit ridge, but most of the turf underfoot is soft (even on the summits), and Low Water Crag looking very black. The snow line was just around Low Water. It was a bit slippy in places, but I was in running shoes! No climbing here just yet.

Aye, just what I expected. It's a shame, things were starting to look good earlier in the week!
