Just watched the ski film Downside Up, in it there are two references to a Dufour as a knot or hitch which seems to be used for lowering. I've not heard of it, neither has google- anyone have any ideas what it looks like and it's application?

I thought a "dulfer" or something similar referred to using a sling to make an improvised sit harness.....

I think you are referring to a Dulfer knot, an Italian hitch, Münter or HMS.

Dülfer, what we would call a classic abseil.
