Do you think it's a waste of time?

(Incidentally, how much energy does it take/use? ie recycling can, plastic, paper, etc)

Of course not. But don't buy it in the first place.

Generally its much more energy efficient than processing raw materials, though this depends on the material. Tge best thing is to generate less ware in the first place-where possible.

Fools game, just save it all in an underground bunker in the garden. 50 years time, plastic'll be stupidly expensive and I'll have tons of the stuff to sell on. Then who'll be laughing.

Interesting that opencasting of old landfill is becoming financially viable.

The big issue in the UK historically was the availability of big holes in the ground to put stuff in and the ability to get planning permission if you had such a hole. There now seems to be some tension between recycling and incinerators wanting the recyclables to burn!

Mind you the people that object to landfill object to incinerators and aren't even that keen on large scale recycling on their doorsteps. There's a big disconect in peoples heads between what goes in the bin and what happens to it afterwards - Eric "lackwit"* Pickles has a lot to answer for with the whole weekly bin collection thing

This was on earlier, discussing this very topic

But even if things do just get collected and sent straight to landfill , the fact that you were thinking about it and trying counts for something
