Heart rate recovery charts

I'm trying to improve my cardio fitness and would like to have some way of measuring how (un)fit I am at moment. I'd like to do a simple heart rate recovery test, then check on a chart to see where I lie between the two extremes of 'about to suffer a major coronary incident' and 'as fit as Bjorn Borg in his prime' (somewhere nearer the latter I suspect). But buggered if I can find any such chart. Most web-sites devoted to the subject tell you how to calculate it, then offer the stunningly insightful observation that 'the higher it is, the fitter you are'. No kidding Sherlock. Higher than bleeding what? 1? 0.000326? 10^16?

If anyone has any links to a web-site that you can plug in stuff like age, sex (yes please), HRR and come up with an assessment of how fit you might be then I'll be forever in your debt (or for the next 10 minutes - whichever comes first).

[A little later]

Found one: http://www.meetup.com/UAEtrekkers/pages/RECOVERY_HEART_RATE%3F%3F%3F__how_f...

Any others out there I'd still be grateful for links to.

Quick aside: why can't you reply to your own topic on these forums? The 'Reply to topic' button is enabled but doesn't do anything in this case. Means you have edit the existing message which doesn't seem logical to me. Might ask that nice Alan James. Also you can't preview the edited message which seems similarly illogical.

Interesting.

We were having a discussion on this only last week.

Thanks for that. I should have searched before I posted.
