Me and my missus have a quick break planned for next week (only time we can get off!), 2 days up north somewhere.

Can anyone recommend a nice hotel/B&B with reasonable rates somewhere? Would like a bit of walking/hill walking nearby or just something interesting to do?

Preferably not more than 2hrs drive or so from Glasgow?

Cheers!

Perhaps too obvious but Kingshouse Hotel in Glencoe? Not terribly pricy and location is impossible to beat. Rooms are a bit 'random' as is the charm of most old country hotels....

Or the Moulin Inn in perthshire.
In reply to euanryan:

+1 for Kingshouse.

An institution, in a unique location. When I stayed deer came to our window.

I've stayed here (gets excellent reviews on Tripadvisor):

Just north of Callander

5 mins walk from an excellent pub:

http://theladeinn.com/

I can recommend both without hesitation.

Thanks for that. Their website says bookings of 2 nights or more though, we're only staying for 1 night

Any other suggestions before I book somewhere?

Loch Lomond Arms at Luss was refurbished a couple of years ago. Had a very pleasant stay there recently on a one niter on my way north with my other half.
Small but good range of whiskies. Decent beer and dinner was very good. Easy access to the Luss Hills, or a short excursion to the Arrochar Alps?

Hi euan,

The moulin suggestion in Pitlochry is good.

Also a few weeks ago I stayed in the isles of glencoe in ballachullish with the mrs. We got a deal on groupon. I reckon you could probably get a good rate.

We had a Nice room with a loch side view. It was about right for the star rating. There is a pool, sauna and jacuzzi included in the room rate. Breakfast was very nice but I would probably say go out for dinner. It's ok but overpriced for the level of food you get. Obviously aswell it's in glencoe!

Hope that helps

Jon

Late to the party here, but this place sounds good.
