What Is Inception Within The Hydrological Cycle?

Interception is where something such as vegetation intercepts precipitation on its journey from sky to ground.

It slows the movement of water into a river drainage basin and can help to reduce flooding. Conversely if vegetation is removed, water falls directly to the ground and can enter a river more rapidly increasing its discharge and making flooding more likely.
