Alex Salmond was in Carlisle the other day trying to convince English border counties that Scottish independence would have business opportunities for English border counties. To say that his speech was greeted with scepticism by the English business folk there is a vast understatement. A warning to Salmond is here.
Scots in Carlisle can be whipped, jailed and have their possessions confiscated, according to Carlisle's Dormont Book which is legal. Written in 1561 it has never been repealed. Locals can be shot for harbouring a Scotsman. I don't why they didn't jail him the other day.

Being whipped and jailed might be quite attractive to some. Is there a niche market to be exploited there?

I don't understand why he never uses the best argument for independence: an independent Scotland would be able to take part in the Eurovision contest.

Wait is that an argument for or against?
