I was thinking a bum-bag might be more comfortable to wear when carrying things for a longer run (ie keys, wallet, wind-proof, snacks, waterbottle). Any suggestions for something that is reasonably light, comfortable, and will stay in place when on the move?

This is one of the finest bits of kit ever made by anyone:

I've had mine for nearly 20 years, during which time I've used it for almost all my running and for keeping stuff in on every foreign trip I've been on. It shows very little sign of wear and is very comfortable and adjustable. Takes spare top, windtop, hat, gloves, headtorch, phone comfortably and, carefully packed out of sight behind you, allows you to get up to 5kg extra weight onto any flight. It is truly awesome.

If you are anywhere one of their stores gave a look at one of these, small light I've had it for about 2 years, worn daily and no wear at all.

Pete Bland make a very popular bum bag...

The PB bum bags are great, but if I want to carry water I prefer a race vest to a bum bag...

I've always got on with the OMM 3L. Like the bungee strap for a quick stash/compression and the pocket for a few jelly babies/nibble of choice. Comfy enough.

The vests seem like a sensible idea, but I think I'm just too sweaty. I'll see about a closer look at the Rock & Run and OMM bags, I think.

Thanks all.

I have a 2L one by Karimor from Sports direct. Can fit a iPhone and 500ml water bottle in it. I think you'd have to think carefully about the volume and the number of pockets if you're looking for something to hold a wind proof and possibly leggings. OMM do go larger than the 3.5L.

6L with water bottle holder.

If it helps the 3L is big enough for race kit - hat, gloves, mapsheet, compass, bit of food, waterproof, pants and flexible bottle. I've used it on ultras (admittedly ones with decent checkpoints).
