The Guardian has an article all about the songs various people associate with summer: http://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/may/15/songs-which-soundtrack-guardia...

Which songs would be on your list?

The Go Betweens - Streets of Your Town youtube.com/watch?v=L33mpJO2MaE&

Good shout by one of them on "All Of My Friends" by LCD Soundsystem, London Session version is best.

I'd find room for "Boyfriend" by Best Coast.

Just looked up Roy Harper's lyrics for "One of those days in England"

You know we'll soon be gone from here, year upon light year
We'll take the stories with us there, the memories are dear.

One of those days in England, mum was rustling up the grub
And dad was off out propping up the pub
One of those days in England that you just could not forget
From the mists of secret morning to the golden red sunset.

And though the time fast slips away, it's long enough to laugh and play
Around the fireside making hay, dreaming of tomorrow, oh you know there's no today.

Oh you know there's no today
No, you know, today.

Lovely eh?

Well I'm going to be really old fartish here, deliberately, and suggest Dancing on the Beach by Cliff Richard.

I like Boys of Summer by Don Henley but there is an even better version that I have by Show of Hands. It was recorded from the Radio when Radcliffe & Maconie did a Jurassic Coast walk several years ago. Can't give a link but it is brilliant.

In reply to Tall Clare:

It's interesting, all mine are from late teens. Summer stretching forever; "finding myself"... and losing myself; a sense of recuperating from the year passed and gathering for the unknown ahead; the exhilaration of finding that my body could do extraordinary things.

My songs are Pavlovian - the tunes of the moment indelibly etched onto the extremes of adolescence: love, loss, abandon, freedom, exposure and humilty.

Costello
Mozart
Rachmaninoff
Blondie
Lloyd Cole
Mussorsky
Bowie

Still on the iPod!
