... with my parents, who are not hill-fit and don't have walking boots or any clothes they are willing to get wet and muddy.

Any suggestions, UKC Hive Mind? Preferably ones that won't involve me going nuts with boredom.

Some nice picturesque waterfalls you could visit.....You can get behind Sgwd yr Eira, but errr....maybe you should buy them some overalls and wellies.

Waterfall country will be very muddy. A slow walk up Pen Y Fan would be relatively easy day out depending on the weather.

What about visits to Carreg Cennen at the western edge of the Beacons or Big Pit at the Eastern?

Not sure where you're staying, and for how long, but would help with ideas.

Llanthony Priory is very atmospheric and has a bar/coffee shop attached and plenty of strolls along the valley.

From Bridgend(good bouldering at Ogmore beach btw if you are on your own), go see Carreg Cennen, drive there along M4 route and drive back along A40 towards Brecon (meal?) and follow our nose back through the Rhondda back to Bridgend, heading through Hirwaun and Treorchy.

Hopefully the weather will allow you to see the hills. Plenty of time to stop and look/eat locally - Beacons mountain centre for a lunch at Libanus.

Good day out.

Stroll along the Usk, or boat trip on Canal From Brecon, to cafe or pub?

Hi,

A walk up Allt yr Esgair GR (SO 125 244) would be good, great views from the top, start at Llangasty Hall GR (SO 122 256) and just make your way up to the top. You can drop down to the venison centre the other side and follow lanes back to Llangasty. Around 5 miles. There’s a cafe at Langorse lake to which would make for a nice finish

The drive from Hay on Wye up over the pass to the Priory is pretty spectacular. Definitely worth heading that way for at least one leg of the way in / out

Avoid Hay this week, it's the Festival, parking poor at the best of times.

Love it! One of the greatest cultural and intellectual events in the world - to be avoided because parking is difficult!

Ah well.

And you have to buy tickets to see anything, everything else is packed, so you can't eat anywhere. Your problem with warning people is??

What is it with you and Simon4, I'm beginning to feel like a persecuted minority... We're not all sandal wearing, bearded, public sector employees you know.
