bird rescue

Hi people,ive just rescued a very small bird(feathered variety)in the garden.Ive put it in a large box in the house away from cats,its not injured but wont fly off.Whats best course of action,cheers.

You have not 'rescued' a very small bird, you have removed a fledgling from it's parent (the adult would have been close by, encouraging the young one to fly or find food for it in the meantime) and it's natural development. Please put it back! This is the way things happen, fledgling can fly but is unskilled and spends a period on the ground or in vegetation until it learns it's craft. And yes, mortality rates by feline predators are high, but this is one of the peril of urban birds.
