Short answer. No the gorge is not open. Probably won't be until April/May next year. And after that I guess it depends on the routes you want to do. I don't envisage that any starting from the new walkway will be allowed, given that Jose Publico will be walking below you.

I went up to the upper gorge last Friday, they have now started work on it. There are signs to tell you to keep out and there is a guard on duty/patrol. I took a quick look around the barrier/signs. They have joined up the gap that existed. They are using wooden slats supported on new metalwork that is secured to the sides of the gorge, there are also uprights for the handrail.

On Sat I went up again to chance my arm at access into the upper gorge. Unusually for a Sat there were workers (quite a few) on the walkway, and the guard was there again. They turned us away. We went around to the lower gorge and spotted some police hiding down on the road that leads around to the road across the dam. We went around to the campsite and whilst we were there the police went racing past and proceeded to escort away two vehicles that had chosen to ignore the very clear signage. There is also a guard posted at the entrance to works in the lower gorge. The guard told me the guards finish at 9pm. I guess as the days get shorter they will finish as it gets dark. The last worker left the walkway at 8:30pm (on a Sat).

The guard told me there will defo not be any workers on the walkway on a Sunday, but the guards, and the police will still be there.

I guess the guards on the walkway makes it hard to get through the tunnels to sectors like Makinodromo. Is this correct?

Even more so, especially as the approach to the first tunnel across the green bridge lies within the confines of the construction site.

I tell you, as an area for climbing it is now well messed up if you want to get to any area the other side of the lower gorge.
