Sad that it's really bad weather at the moment.Hopefully he will get it done tomorrow. Even at 80 he is the most inspirational and enthusiastic person you could ever hope to climb with and with Leo, no problem!

Excellent, but I'd love to see him doing it with Joe Brown, he must be about 84 by now.
In reply to Sean Kelly:

Seems Bonners got to the summit about an hour and a half ago:

What a legend. Mike Banks did this too, in his late 70s.

In reply to Gordon Stainforth:

What a star he is. When I spoke to him yesterday to say he was apprehensive would be an understatement but when he comes down to the Pyrenees next month I can now get him to lead some pitches as he has been getting in some training!
In reply to Gordon Stainforth:

Just looked at the picture that Leo Holding Tweeted and Leo has all the gear and Chris has very little - looks like Chris might have led the last pitch. What an achievement - well done!
In reply to keith-ratcliffe:

Yes, he said he intended to lead the last pitch, just as he had done on the first ascent.

It looks much more like Leo led but hardly placed any gear to me. Still a great achievement, I'll be happy if I can walk over for a look when I'm 80!

In reply to Sean Kelly:

When we climbed it in 1986 some of the big wooden chocks from the first ascent were still in place.

In reply to Slugain Howff:

I climbed it in 2012 a few days before my wedding and some of the wooden blocks were still there then. I slung a few for pro
In reply to Sean Kelly:

BTW, does anyone have any idea what Leo's last tweet means (starting 'no exit the mate')? I'm assuming it was the result of much celebratory drinking as it was sent at about one in the morning.

In reply to Gordon Stainforth:

maybe something to do with BASE jumping it
In reply to lithos:

Ah, brilliant. Mostly makes sense now.
