Seem to be a few passat drivers on here so I thought this was wroth an ask

Passat b5 has no remote locking, no internal lights no windows working which all point to the ccm. I've lifted carpet and removed unit. No sign of any water damage and all in pristine condition.. Fuses have been checked.

Any experience of a ccm failing without water damage? Or any other ideas?

Not a b5 owner but do have a b6 and previously a bora so have spent many an you on forums reading about stuff like this. I've learned that cars of b5 vintage suffered from dry solder problems on the joints on electrical connections (had the issue on door locks on the bora). If the unit appears dry it could be that.

I'm on my 2nd B5 at the moment, but I'm afraid I can't suggest anything other than posting on vwaudiforum.co.uk, in their B5 specific forum:

With the few issues I've had with my cars over the past 6-7 years, I've found the folk there to be very knowledgeable and helpful.

Not VW related but out ccm died out of the blue in a BMW. No water ingress just one day crazy behaviour. It does happen.
