I've been kiting for a number of years though never in the UK...far too cold for me!
Be prepared to get addicted....very addicted!
This sport was cited in my last breakup!
As for practical tips, I have noticed that people who have 'board' experience tend to learn much quicker i.e. wakeboarders, snowboarders etc.
It's the ability to use the hips to balance that seems crucial.
The kite itself is another matter but you'll get to grips with that in time.
