When a group of us walked through Harrisons this morning (Sunday) on the way to climb at the isolated buttress we notice a group of people setting up a zip wire using the metal belay ring at the top of Foresters.
We tried to advise these people that the belay ring was not designed for that purpose and the sideways strain could cause the belay ring to be ripped out.. They took little notice and even stated that they had done it before. Not wishing for further confrontation we advised them again and walked on.
On our way back to the car park we checked the belay ring at the top of Forresters and it appeared secure, but one can never be sure if any damage had been caused to the fixing.
It may be prudent for any climber wishing to climb Foresters to check the stability of the belay ring before setting up the rope.
An e mail has been sent to the BMC for their information and asking them to carry out an inspection of the belay ring.
