Having reluctantly decided I can't afford the new LX-100 I picked up its baby brother last week, as a replacement for my old LX-3.

I haven't had a chance to really take pics yet, but I took it out last night and can confirm the image stabilisation really works.

Hand held at iso 200, and I'm not particularly steady: http://www.spectral3d.co.uk/misc/P1000016.JPG

Great camera choice I got a grey market one a few months ago when they were just £180'ish on ebay and 'justified' a second hand (but as new) LVF2 ...

... which is a very high quality articulating electronic viewfinder that really helps get some low-down angles or get in really close for macro shots.

The LX7 came with me on a cycle tour a couple of weeks ago ...

I've not convinced myself about the EVF yet. I used a cam with EVF about 7 years ago and it was shockingly bad so I have a prejudice, but I of all people know that a lot happens in technology in 7 years!

[edit] Impressive photos. Looks like they have kept the quality up with the lx series

I promise you it's very, very good. Almost as good as that of the Sony NEX7. For macro shots it really makes a difference because you can nail really nail focus without reflection distraction, and can frame a subject so much better than with an LCD display (if that makes sense).

Here's an LX7 close focus shot ...

Haha !! No, you'd end up regretting it next time you were at a wedding or something.

I used an LX2 for 6 years, and was really happy with it which is why I was so eager to get the LX7 when it was cheap enough. Gotta say the LX100 looks to be a killer camera though, doesn't it. Big sensor, fast lens, proper exposure/speed dials. But v. expensive and no built-in ND filter for some reason ?

The lx100 does look like a killer, and I nearly waited but at the end of the day the one that isn't out yet is always better and at some point you hust have to say "sod it. That one.".

The lx100 and its ilk just means that my next compact will be awesome.

I contrived to have a look at one. FAR better than the POS I used last time. I am now feeling significantly poorer.

I'm just biding my time - sure to be a price reduction by Xmas....
