Windows 8.1 Map App

I'm trying to use the map that came installed with windows 8.1. The map opens ok but when I click on the "Search and Directions box in the top right hand corner it disappears and I can't search the map or get directions. Can anyone help please? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app but that doesn't help.

In reply to mypyrex: is it just making the 'window' too big, leaving 'search' off screen. I don't have a win 8 phone so that's a guess

No, I click on "Search and Directions" and just disappears

OK, I don't have a search/direction box top right I have to right click anywhere and a toolbar opens at the bottom with the aforementioned options at the right hand end. Seems to work OK and I can get back to the map ok
