We've got a lock on the front door which, to all intents and purposes, looks like a Chubb Mortice Deadlock (the keys look like Chubb keys) but the name on it is "Firth".

We sometimes have no end of trouble with the key failing to open the lock - possibly the key is worn or the levers are worn.

Does anyone know if Chubb locks would be of a better standard or recommend a lock of a high standard.

Thanks.

ps
the existing lock is about ten years old.

In reply to mypyrex:
A squirt of graphite powder on the key can be miraculous, you can get a bottle that will last several lifetimes for a fIver.

Or use a pencil.

In reply to mypyrex: the levers can wear down, resulting in having problems operating the lock. As long as you go for a lock with a BS marking on it you should get something which will be of reasonable quality and secure. I had to replace my locks after about 20 years when they were having problems - dismantling them it was obvious that the levers were worn, and also the central rotating part which is supposed to hold the key in position was also worn and allowing the key to move around.
