We're off to Brussels for the weekend. Not been there before and we are staying in a hotel in the Rue de Luxembourg.

Can anyone recommend any good(but not too expensive) restaurants within walking distance. NOT fast food types and preferably with some atmosphere.

Thanks.

Plenty of decent restaurants and bars around the Place de Luxembourg though none stand out from memory. Usually full of Eurocrats letting their hair down after work but that shouldn't be an issue at the weekend.

One place I've been to a couple of times near there is Poivre et Sel on Rue du Parnasse. http://www.poivre-et-sel.be/fr/ Cosy, informal and reasonable food. I was on expenses but it didn't seem too expensive as city restaurants go, certainly better than most around the Grand Place.

You should definitely go here, it opens at 11am so would be great for lunchtime.

Like a lot of people visiting Brussels I've only ever eaten there on expenses so can't really remember which ones were a bargain. Seem to remember Aux Armes des Bruxelles being decent - been there a couple of times with colleagues. Quite traditional and good service - the food was not out of this world but was certainly consistently good. It's on Rue des Bouchers (very central - walkable from our hotel at Carrefour de Europe).

I've always thought that the rue des Bouchers was a bit of a tourist trap, but maybe there are exceptions

Some nice places by place St Catherine but can't remember any names

It is.

You have to brave alley after alley of people standing outside restaurants trying to pull you in. I don't have extensive experience there but as a recommendation my suggestion is not somewhere I would tell anyone to avoid.

Zola is very good and I don't think too pricey. Been there a few times and always enjoyed the food, ambience and service. It's on Grand Sablon/ Grote Zaal, walking distance from centre.

This http://en.resto.be/restaurant/brussels/1000-brussels-center/3627-brasserie-... is not bad and on rue du Luxembourg but maybe only lunchtimes
Il Pasticcio is an excellent Italian round the corner but also maybe only lunchtime
Poivre et Sel also good

If you want Bruxelloise go to Au Stekerlapatte 4 rue des Prêtres but will be at least 20 min stroll from rue du Lux or get metro to Louise
If you want meat go to Le Chumadia but need to reserve

The Xmas market round place St Catherine opens this weekend I think
