My recollection of those events was that one of the few people who (eventually) acted with any integrity was Profumo himself.

He knew he had lied to Parliament and did the decent thing and left politics, never to return, and devoted the rest of his life to charitable work.

If only we still had politicians of that calibre.

One of the great quotes of late twentieth century britain, because of all it implied about "the system".
She was nobody's fool; a very bright woman. Heard her interviewed a couple of years ago. Her comment on the quote;"I was angry, really angry, because I knew he was lying". All power to her....
