Looking for a spot to mountaineer tomorrow - hoping to benefit from UKC's knowledge beforehand. Neither of us have a lot of winter experience, so will be sticking to the II range. We'll be using a rope and pro.

Also would like to avoid any dodgy avalanche-y gullies and horrible cornice top-outs!
Alllsssooo have hurt my foot so a walk-in no longer than 90 minutes would be ideal.

Was thinking of Red Screes - is it in good nick or will it be a powder fest? What is the protection like on a route e.g. Kilnshaw Chimney?
Are there any routes on this side of the Lakes that are similar to Pinnacle Ridge? - an easy ridge/buttress with good belays

Any other suggestions?
- Shortish approach
- Decent protection
- Low avalanche/cornices risk

Thanks for the help- trying to stay safe!

Kilnshaw chimney reasonable condition. Much firmer further up the gully. Ice pitch good and banked out. No gear at all in the chimney. Unless you just want a short day go higher. Park up at ski club on helvellyn and walk in there. Or swirls car park and head to browncove in under an hour. Summer step packed with pro and plenty on central gully too.
Stepped ridge has lots of pro but is III but taking the easy options isore like II.
