This is a long shot, but the UKC hive mind is a powerful thing.

I'm trying to remember the name of a famous photographer. One his best known photos is of a man lighting a cigarette for a woman. Here's what I recall:

It's in black and white
The woman is seated
She is attractive, probably mid-20s, smartly dressed
Judging by her hair and clothing, the photo was taken in the 60s
All you see of the man is his hand, holding a flaming match (or maybe a lighter)
The photo is taken as if through the eyes of the man. He is standing, so looking slightly downward at her

I *think* the same photographer did a lot of work for Vogue in the 60s, if that helps.

Anyone got any ideas, please?

Don't know the photographer though.

Nope, not Bogart/Bacall or Penn (although I really like the latter). In the one I'm thinking of, the view is almost looking down the man's arm. You see his hand and part of the lower arm, but that's all.
In reply to Tony Naylor:

There's definitely a picture of Lauren Bacall which fits the bill. No idea who took it, though. I suspect googling 'Lauren Bacall smoking' would get you there more quickly than waiting for the hive mind to hover fleetingly over your request......
In reply to Dave Garnett:

That's the one I'm thinking of, but you'd have to ask Tony.

A visually similar image search comes up with this

Although I think it may be a cropped version of the same?

It's all getting a bit 'Fast Show' now:

'Do you have any books about the history of owl keeping in Doncaster, 1983-88), with a purple and white cover?'

'Why, yes - we have this one'.

'Oh. That one has a bit too much white for my liking.....'

That is one hot lady!

The fast show = 'Do you have any Pirate memory games?'

Gets assistance from 'Margret' upstairs as to location of stock.

Chap behind counter produces 3 none of which are suitable for very minor reasons
