Does anyone know of a single island that is further from the nearest bit of land, island or islet than Rockall?

Kerguelen - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerguelen_Islands

OK wrong - looks like Bouvet trumps Kerguelen.

St Helena?

Also, the OP asked for a single island, rather than a group.
In reply to estivoautumnal:

Out of interest, why do you ask? I recently went to St Kilda, and that felt remote enough... as a result however I want to go somewhere more remote!
In reply to estivoautumnal:

Good one -- a quick look on google earth shows that most of the usual suspects ( Easter, Ascension, Tristan Da Cunha etc) seem to have outlying islets or stacs.

the missus' best friend is from St Helena. Couldn't believe how long she said it took for her to get home and visit her family. like 2-3 weeks each way or something

Ah, St Helena is the most remote inhabited island...

Yes I've heard of google. Bouvet Island is not a single island.

In reply to A Longleat Boulderer:

Just interested. Lots of islands claim to be 'remotest' but most have islets or neighbouring islands where Rockall has nothing but a drying reef nearby.

Apologies, missed that one!

What about an island within a lake on an island within a lake on an island?

It took a bit of searching but I reckon one of these might be the Wolds' most remote island https://www.google.co.uk/maps/search/wolds/@53.9137611,-0.7962938,16z

There is an island on Loch Maree that has it's own loch, so that's a body of water on an island in a body of water on an island in a body of water.

Brain overflow. Too much recursion.

Sorry, since when was Loch Maree on an island (unless you mean GB)? I know the Scots want independence, but I didn't know they'd cut free yet

Our country is indeed an island. Wikipedia says...An island / or isle is any piece of sub-continental land that is surrounded by water.

In reply to Gordon Stainforth: Indeed, Scotland occupies the northern end of the 9th largest island in the world.

Can anyone remember Ronnie Barker's joke about Rockall?
estivoautumnal 06 May 2015
In reply to mbh:

Don't know about Mr Barker but I can tell you there is phuk all at Rockall.
In reply to estivoautumnal:

Indeed, but to say 'island within lake within island within lake within island within sea' doesn't really seem to be in the spirit of the question about remoteness - when the last island in question is one of the most heavily populated in the world, and is the base from which many explorers start.
estivoautumnal 06 May 2015
In reply to Gordon Stainforth:

I disagree on a few points.

The UK as a whole is the 51st (ish) most densely populated country in the world. Hardly qualifies as one of the most densely populated. And if you take Scotland as the parent country it is around 188 out of 241 countries. So really not heavily populated at all.

The lake in question is a loch.

My reply to Rigid Raider had no bearing on my original question.
