Looking for a place that has a high concentration of easy climbs or scrambly rock problems in the Peak.
My friend is over from NZ with her 7 year old and would like to give him a few hours taster of "scrabbling" in her words. Yes scrabbling........ I did ask how many points that was worth.

Was thinking of going to Stanage Popular, so things like Grotto Slab, Mantelpiece Buttress and Crack. Maybe Anatomy. There are also rock areas to boulder, play without the rope.

Any other suggestions for an area with a number of easier climbs close together for a taster session. Staying in Hathersage but they will be driving up from London area so other places on the way in/out could be considered.

Thanks

Stanage apparent North (Apparent, not actual) or Windgather (Western Grit) would be my reccomendations.

Windgather is the best for small people.

For routes maybe, but 'scrabbling' sounds a lot like 'weaseling' to me. Apparent North (Stanage) seems a better bet for that, and the Burbage Valley has much to offer. The jumble of boulders close to the Leaning Block at Higgar can be lots of fun for a little one to explore.

A wee bit further afield from Hathersage, but another place that might be much fun to explore (but has less in the way of yer actual climbing) would be Rowtor Rocks. And Robin Hood's Stride, maybe?

My fave place for such is Wharncliffe lots of mods and caves and clefts. Other good bets include the Troglodytes tour venues in the Burbage BMC guide like Higgar South/East or Burbage Nort or Burbage South. There is also a 'Trogs tour' for Stanage and Froggatt BMC guides that I wrote. Our website was partly designed to help folk like you with desciptions of kids bouldering, unlisted easier climbs and some of the weaseling... look and see. Deepsoup has made other useful suggestions (also covered on our site). Some examples:
