In reply to Indy:

Pen knife all the way around the painted gap between the door and the frame, both sides.

Then apply force to the door via a load spreader such as a big piece of wood run vertically along the door on the far side from the hinges.

Are the hinges painted? Can you see them? Can you apply a heat gun or nitromorse them?

In reply to Indy:

Cut the paint (stanley knife or chisel or sharp scraper and mallet) if it's gluing the door shut but not blocking the frame. If it is blocking the frame remove the paint with heat and a scraper.

Thanks all.
To confirm its stuck to the door frame where the door contacts to stop it swinging through. Pretty solidly stuck as well. Will a heat gun do it?
Thanks

In reply to Indy:

run a stanley knife all around the contact edges, or a scraper if you can, heat gun will make a hell of a mess

In reply to Indy:

The way to deal with this one is to get some specially strong super-glue and smear it all over the door-handle. Then, grasp the handle very firmly and maintain that position for five minutes without moving. Finally, give the door-handle an extra-hard tug - if that won't shift it, nothing will, but even if it doesn't work, your original problem will just pale into insignificance.
