High Neb Gully (M)

Graded "E" in the BMC definitive guide - first time I notice this grade. E for easy I suppose. Understandable, but is it meant tongue-in-cheek or are there any other occurrences of this grade? Or is it an actual historical grade I am not aware of?

It was the old base of the the system - largely abandoned nowadays: Easy > Moderate > Difficult > Very Difficult > etc

That reminds me when a friend (who climbed a wee bit indoors) asked me why do I call a route easy if its grade is Severe? Well, I didn't have an answer prepared for that!

In reply to PPP:

Yeah this is a constant source of amazement for the wife as well. She always asks me to climb E1 or E2, because that must be less dangerous than a Hard Very Severe surely. That sounds like certain death to her.

Thanks for the answers every one.
