Quick question on behalf of a third party. If an accountant completes a self assessment tax return for a client, does the accountant normally send a copy of the completed return to the client?

Thanks.

I think the norm now is no. Because everyone can register and view their account online it saves time and paperwork.

Thanks; so no onus on the accountant to do so.

It is important to send the tax return in some form to the client to approve as the onus is still on the taxpayer to ensure its accuracy. So they should have a final draft if nothing else. This might have been sent in paper or electronic form (which they may it may not have printed off).

Yes, you should get a copy to approve before they sent the final to HMRC.

In reply to JayPee630: You certainly should as if it's incorrect in any way it's you that gets the penalty, not the accountant!

I always get sent one for approval and ask my accountant for a copy (pdf format) upon completion.

If your accountant won't oblige- change accountant!
